MFW - Day 3 - Special love to Sportmax

I admit that I have a bit of a Max Crush. In my wardrobe you can find several pieces from Max&Co and I've been eying and coveting more than the occasional item from the bigger sisters. So it is not much of a surprise when I really liked this collection.

MFW - Day 4 - Favorites

A flaming cabaret from Roberto Cavalli, graphic illusions from Bottega Veneta, the "Design Team" at Jil Sander, "Dancing with wolves the Orient Edition" at Antonio Marras (really?), some very interesting tailored layering from Gabriele Colangelo and more on Day 4 of Milan(o) Fashion Week

Here are my favorites:

MFW - Day 3 - Special Love to Iceberg

The space girl in me delighted over the new collection by Iceberg, which seemed to be made for a trip to the moon or a space station.

MFW - Day 3 - Favorites

Quickly quickly to Day 3 where we saw Blumarine doing Oriental Glam, Gorgio Armani using only models that looked like twin sisters or clones of each other, Donatella being rather tame and Veronica Etro showing her prints in laid back colors and flowing silky materials.

MFW - Day 1 - Favorite 10

Yesterday was the first day of Milan Fashion Week. And I still owe you something on London Fashion Week, I know.

Funny enough, the selection is all dresses (or coats in the same length), all very similar cut. In part this could be because we saw a lot of them in yesterday shows. There were of course some pants, like for example at Gucci, alas I still liked the dresses better.

Also, I could not find any decent images from a number of shows like for example Byblos, Angelo Marani, etc.

Anyway, my favorite looks:

Alberta Ferretti

NYFW - Day 7 - Special love to Clover Canyon

This, in my eyes, is really beautiful, albeit psychedelic patterning. I was enchanted. Would love to get hold of one of their dresses or coats from this collection. Maybe this shows that I am an Iguana at heart.

Clover Canyon is a women's wear brand located and producing in Los Angeles, California.

NYFW - Day 8 - Fav 12

Because of the less packed last day, I decided to go with one slightly larger instead of two categories.

Calvin Klein Collection

NYFW - Day 7 - Fav 10

A curious thing happened throughout the week of me looking at the pictures of the various shows. Often I would save the photographs, but would only get to edit them at a later point into a blog post. By then, quite a number of looks I had originally picked out didn't appeal all that much anymore.

That shows why my choice of waiting at least 24h before doing any major purchase is a good one. Chances are, after some time has passed, I don't even care about having it anymore. And yes, you totally can survive not having a certain item of fashionable clothing.

Favorite 10:

Anna Sui

NYFW - Special love to Alice+Olivia

Gosh, I adore this collection and the setting and theme they presented it in. I would very much love to strut around in these outfits for a host of different occasions.

NYFW - Day 5 - Fav10

What criteria do I use when picking my favorite 10 looks?

First of all, I am asking myself "Would I wear it?". That means I judge it by how it is cut in regards to my own figure, not that of the model wearing the item, the colors used and the style.

"Do the pieces work if paired with other items? Are they versatile? How would they look styled differently?"

"Could I imagine them being wanted and worn by others?"

And well, also I am trying hard to focus on the clothes, sometimes the models are styled in a way that makes it hard for me to embrace the clothing, because it is simply not how I would want to present myself. For example I had a hard time with Alexander Wang on Day 3 and I totally couldn't with Thom Browne either.

Anyways, on to the favorite looks of Day5:

3.1 Phillip Lim
Carolina Herreira

NYFW FW14/15 - Day 4 - Fav 10

I know you all have been waiting eagerly for Day 4, oh what did she pick? (Yeah right. One day)

Well, here it is. However I have to say, all in all I found Day 4 a tad boring. The thing that excited me the most were the tights at Vivienne Tam.

Band of Outsiders

NYFW - Day 3 - Special Love to Ostwald Helgason

Once I realized I had tagged more then 10 of the looks from their Fall Winter collection, I figured they deserved a post all of their own:

Bubblegum and Candy - D.I.Y. Statement Necklace

Bubblegum and Candy D.I.Y. Do it yourself statement necklace fai da te

This is a necklace I've made myself.

Striped beads in two sizes and three different colors alternated with silver "dotted" beads stringed with 3 equivalent colors of organza.

If you are interested in making a statement necklace like this for yourself, here's a quick run down:

You need:

  • 5-6 large colored beads
  • 2 equal smaller colored beads
  • 6 silver (or gold) beads
  • 3 different colored, 1cm large & 50cm long stripes of organza (sheer) fabric

You do:

  1. Pre arrange the beads in the order you want to string them.
  2. Take the three stripes of fabric tightly together. I piled them onto a needle to help with the stringing process.
  3. Start stringing up the beads. I started with the middle one and worked outwards to achieve a uniform result
  4. Make a tight, bead hugging simple knot between each bead you add
  5. Rinse & repeat until done
  6. Voila, you have a sparkling new funky and shiny statement necklace

This week I used it to accessorize a black button down shirt paired with a grey short pullover/jumper.
