Capsule Wardrobe Experiment #1 - Travel & Star Wars Force Awakens

Hello! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays, whatever form they take for you. We've had "big family" meals here in the last two days, so excuse the silence.

As far as the capsule wardrobe experiment goes, things are going great so far, just a few days in. However, I'm travelling so the wardrobe is even more restricted. On the upside, having had the whole capsule planned out already in advance, packing was a breeze. I don't think I've ever been done so fast. On the down side, my new coloured leggings didn't arrive yet. And it is way warmer than anticipated.

Here's what I wore for the travel and then to go watch Star Wars VII with the hubby. We went to see it in original version, that is in English, at the cinema in Landstuhl.

My Capsule Wardrobe Experiment - 45 Days, 30 Pieces

The idea of a capsule, or maybe I should say small wardrobe, has been a slight obsession of mine, as you know. I mean, I keep harping on about it every so often. Maybe because I associate a small wardrobe and not too many belongings in general with the idea of being free to just pack and go wherever or whenever the wind of life moves you. Maybe it is because I associate less items also with more mental freedom.

And I've been feeling restless for a couple of years now. It only never really struck me quite as so urgent as this summer. I guess I might be moving towards a small mid-life crisis. Or maybe I just become more myself.

The Party Look - What to Wear for New Years Eve and Beyond

I've mentioned it on Facebook last week already, this year I feel weirdly drawn to lace dresses for the look of the final night of the year, I am just not sure how I'd feel about wearing it, having a pretty gamine vibe going on most days. And I'm not talking about wearing it just for that one night. That'd be no problem. Delightful even. I love getting all fancy nd posh every now and then. But whether I'd be wearing it regularly afterwards. This is where those fashion rental services come in handy.

Anyways, I compiled some lace outfit ideas for the party season, mainly New Years Eve. Three options, three different price classes. I am so very much in love with the Suzette dress. If only I'd had a wedding or something to attend sometime soon.

Casual Fall Layers - With Plaid

Not much text from me today. I've been out and about pretty much all of the weekend. Lots of karate. Plus, today is when Santa Lucia came to town. This is the day when traditionally the kids get gifts here in our region, instead of Christmas day. Well some probably get gifts on Christmas too.

Fall Layer Look - Plaid shirt, sweater cardigan, black skinnies, wedge booties || Funky Jungle - fashion and personal style blog

This outfit was something I wore a couple of weeks ago, when it was still warmer. Early in the day, for bringing my son to school, I wore the puffered vest over the sweater cardigan. It is the kind of things I wear when I am not doing much else that day. Comfortable to work from and in the home, at the same time, you are still presentable. Or so I think.

The Big Gift Guide for the Nerdy & Geeky Girl

I'm not really a big fan of generic gift guide this, gift guide that, but I do love the specialty gift guides because that's where you can find the real good stuff that warms the hearts of those receiving the gift in that special way.

At least, that is how it works for me. If you manage to gift me something that shows that you really know me well, quirks and all, it is so much better than when I get "oh yeah it's cute, but it could be for any female" kind of gift.

Counting the Ways - How to Style Tall Boots for Fall/Winter

One of the big wardrobe staples of Fall and Winter since a long time are tall boots, meaning those that end around the knee, either slightly above, or slightly below. Riding boots, Over-the-knee-boots or slouchy boots with or without heels. I love my tall boots. If you'd ask me to decide for any single pair of them, I couldn't.

Today I've composed a little round-up of how I styled my tall boots in the colder months, up until now.

And All I See Are ... Red Tights!

That was my first thought when seeing the pictures of this outfit. It had a very different effect from seeing it in the mirror. I knew the tights where eyecatchers, I just didn't expect them to be that much of one. They are old, but previously I used them mostly with all black outfits, where they didn't quite pop out that much.

It's that time of the year again. While there's still some weeks left for the "End of the Year Holiday Season" (at my family, it's called Christmas ;-) ) I've already started to gather some gifts where I found good deals, for those where the thing to gift was clear - or the perfect thing, in cases where it wasn't set in stone.

The Girl At The Lake, Round Two - And More Birthday Goodies

During the warmer months, we are actually over at Lake Iseo pretty regularly. It's not horribly far from here and they often have little events at the weekend or regular markets. The day these pics were taken, along the street parallel to the Lungolago (Lake promenade), local artists showed their work. Two of them particularly caught my eye. I always enjoy art, be it as paintings, music, dance etc. albeit admittedly, not every single one I encounter is to my liking. Some I find outright horrid. A matter of taste.

Still I enjoy the fact that it was created, that someone sat down and made this. I think we all should do that way more often. And please don't confine creativity to only include the standard arts. Creativity is way way more than just that. It's decorating your home, it's putting that final touch on an otherwise simple outfit, it's inventing a special way to prepare a meal, it's making up a new way to talk yourself out of a corner with your child (we all know those little buggers are good at cornering us...). You probably are creative in way more ways than you give yourself credit for. But there's always room for more.

So like "Woah"! Another year passed. As if it were nothing. And Baby Funky is two years old today!

It sure has been a glorious time so far. I am actually quite giddy and excited about the fact that my little blog made it to the two year mark and is by all effects continously growing. Also, I fully do believe we all could profit from slowing our lives down and not always go quite so fast.

Anyway. To celebrate and say thank you to my readers who have stuck with me through ups, downs, highs and flakes, I am co-hosting this awesome Giveaway that comes right in time for Christmas/the Holidays. You can win either 500$ as a giftcard for Amazon, or alternatively as Paypal cash.

Wake Up And Live - Graphic Sweatshirt & Thoughts

I choose my graphic t-shirts or sweaters, according to whether the message or picture on them speaks to me in some form (and who doesn't, really?). Well, actually, I do that for jewelry too, but today, we are talking about printed on tops.

Wake Up And Live. An edgy, slightly rock, but fairly casual look with graphic sweatshirt and faux leather pants || Funky Jungle - Mindful Fashion & Personal Style Blog

Wake Up And Live. It is astonishing, to what extent we can sleep, even when our eyes are open and we are seemingly wide awake. Yet our mind is so trapped in endless thought chatter, endless tasks, endless distractions, endless comparison and the rat race of ever faster, higher, further that in reality, very few are living fully. In the present moment. We are often either in the past (as also Zaz pointed out this week) or in some hypothetical future, when we finally can start to live because we arrived at having achieved "X". Whatever that may be for you.

A Bit Witchy, A Bit Goth - Funky on Halloween & See You Later

I am going to take a brief leave of absence. There'll be a post next week as I have a giveaway planned, but other than that, I'll be gone until around the 18th/19th November.

I leave you with a couple of photos from my Halloween "look". It wasn't really a costume, but I felt like dressing the samhain part a bit. Am wearing a black hooded knit dress over a knitted burgundy maxi dress. Added a fancy but slightly old fashioned hat and my what I call "witch shoes".

Falling into Boho - Or Why Change is Good

Even so I didn't intend to, I've been bitten by the boho bug. Sometimes, things change and I believe we do best not to resist them, but rather welcome them, even if not all of them are pleasant. But I get it. Change can be way scary. The way things always were is comfortable, reassuring. Even if they were crappy. Change means taking a step into the unknown, leaving the parameters of our up-to-date comfort zone, having to stretch the belief of what we are. That's not a bad thing. We can discover that we are so much more than what we thought to be.

What that has to do with Boho? Hmm well, my new found love for the Boho style comes from the changes in life direction I started to implement after the summer holidays. Step by step, they'll change were I go in regards to my life. One example would be reading.

Pennette Saporite con Rucola

I've really started to enjoy cooking, but since my schedule is hectic most days, the greater part of my meal preparing has to be something that can be done fast. So here is another very simple and quick Pasta recipe. You can either prepare it in the vegetarian or in a vegan version. Last time I did it, I had an in between, as I substituted the milk for rice milk but kept the Feta.

Bergamo Alta - And Distressed Jeans, Layered Lace

Last Sunday we visited Bergamo Alta, the old medieval & renaissance town part of Bergamo, which is located upon a small hill. You can reach it by foot or a small train, as in general only people who live there are allowed in with the car. Much easier to just park in the city below.

Me and a very old door

It's beautiful and definitely worth a visit should you happen to be in the area and time permitting. If you do, I would suggest to at least go back down by foot, as I found it nice to go through the old city gate and follow the old stairs. The view on the city down below is great as well.

After the Shopping Break - Fall / Winter Knit Wish List

And I've done it! Actually, I cannot believe how fast September went by. One factor surely is the new rhythm we have to get used to now, with my son going to school. Which was also a wee help with the no shopping thing as I didn't have as much free time as before. Unlike before, now he's only gone for a couple of hours in the morning, barely enough to do anything, let alone wanting to drive somewhere for extensive shopping. Another thing that helped is that I filled any free time left with reading, learning and starting a new martial art.

Monte Maddalena

Today I'm going to let mostly the pictures do the talking. These are from a Sunday trip maybe three weeks ago. We went up the Monte Maddalena, which is the mountain just to the north of Brescia. Up there we did one of the easier hikes through the forest, which takes about one hour.

I was wearing the ... chinos. Hah! They are just too darn good for everything. And in a last hooray to summer, a tank top with lace back. Which by the way, is a great layering piece too, as you soon will see. Plus my trusty hiking companions, the Puma sneakers. They work well enough for easy hikes like we do at the moment.

5 Ways to Becoming or Staying Fit on a Budget

Before I was pregnant with my son, I didn't move. I tried to make sure my weight didn't go out of control by watching not what I ate but how much of it. After I gave birth, I changed my eating habits a bit due to breast feeding, but it wasn't until after I stopped, that I really cut out the crap.

You see, I was left with an out of proportion body. And I had two options. Plastic surgery, or moving my ass and reshaping by exercising. Well three. I could have left it as is and "accept it". Not sure I'd ever really would have learned to truly love me that way. Maybe. There's no way of telling now.

Old Pinstripes

Admittedly these pictures have been taken in spring, but then the weather became very warm within short time and it didn't feel right posting them anymore. Now the weather is once again at that point, so I figured they might as well fit now.

The blazer is surprisingly cozy and warm, and whilst I love my grey one and my black one, they both feel way thinner and colder material wise. You may remember the pants as being thrifted and the top has made an appearance more than once (here layered belowhere with midi skirt).

I Am Not A Minimalist

I realize when reading my posts, where I'm talking about decluttering and "not buying" or well, "buying less", the idea could come up that I'm a minimalist. And I've pondered the question to see how I feel about it. Am I a Minimalist? Yes and No. I certainly have found that I am happier with less things, but that doesn't stem exactly from wanting to make rigid lists like "XY hanger/items closets" or "I only own 100 items total" or "Etc" work in my life at all costs.

Saying Goodbye to Summer - Utility Shirtdress, Fringe Booties & the Jingle Boho Necklace

We can probably expect some more warm and sunny days still, but it's not quite enough anymore to heat up the whole day, or the shadows. And there has been a good number of cloudy days since the offical start of Fall here in Northern Italy. Sadly, it was also cloudy last night, and I didn't get to see the hyped Supermoon eclipse. Ah well, in 2033 I'll try again. Did any of you get to see it?

What to Wear For a Wedding II - The Garden

Here now some pictures from the second wedding of the same couple, which was held in a restaurant with a very scenic, romantic garden attached to it.

I was wearing my go-to dress for weddings. It's been bought for attending a wedding many years ago and I've worn it for two other weddings since, plus this, makes four. Admittedly, it's pretty much the only time I wear it. The jacket is attached to it and putting it on is a bit of a hassle that doesn't quite vibe right with my innate love of simplicity. It's beautiful, mind, just not something I wear very often. Fact is, it's one of those dresses you keep despite all the rules & questions for good wardrobe maintenance.

I think it works well color wise as I hadn't had any problems with the color of the bride and whilst it is bright, it's not extremely flashy. Talking of colors, it's one of the very few things I own in "pink/fuchsia". The little jacket covers the shoulders and arms in case it is a bit more on the chilly side in regards to temperatures, or if you like it a bit more modest. It's also made out of a material thin enough to not get too hot. Alternatively, one could wrap a shawl around the shoulders.

Pink Polkda Dot Dress

The place is called Villa Giardino and if you want to see some more pictures, check out this post from December 2014. The food was great, I just wish wedding lunches weren't so damned long. Still, it was a very beautiful wedding in a beautiful setting and my best wishes to the happy couple.

I was doing a sort of photographer behind the scences.

Lago Moro - Casual As Casual Can Be

After the dinner outfit, now something which is quite the juxtaposition. The clothes I wore for a trip to Lago Moro where we went one Sunday for some walking. We actually travelled there by train & shuttle bus as opposed to car. I really enjoyed this. Somehow going by train it felt more like travelling instead of moving from the point of start to the point of destination, and preferably as quick as possible.

Lago/Lake Moro is a small lake in the Italian Alpes above Darfo Boario Terme in the Val Camonica and unless you are a resident up there, you aren't allowed to go up by car most of the time. Hence the shuttle bus. You can walk all around the lake, it's a fairly quick & easy hike. We did that and then stopped at the official bathing spot to hang our feet in the water for a bit. I definitely want to go back up there next summer for some actual bathing.

Dinner with Friends and a Black Shirt Dress

When going out with friends for "a pizza" here in Italy, your dressing really doesn't have to be very formal or super styled, but of course, you still might want to look good whilst feeling good. Jeans and a nice top are perfectly fine, just glam it up a bit with shoes, jewelry or your handbag.

This time instead of pants I opted for this minimalistic black shirt dress that you've seen already here & here. I never actually feel overdressed when wearing it, even tho I wouldn't consider it "casual" per se. Minimalistic yes, casual as we understand it not so much. Still it's pretty carefree. Just great.

It was also one of the last really hot days here, now I'd definitely wear it like I did in the first look linked above, which was a pretty nice transitional option.

Wenn man sich in Italien mit Freunden "auf eine Pizza" trifft, muss man sich kleidungsmaessig nicht besonders rausputzen, selbst wenn man ins Restaurant geht. Natuerlich will man sich trotzdem gut fuehlen waehrend man gut aussieht.

P.S. My hair is that wild because I had to force it into some shape whatsoever. Bad hair day ya' know.
