Always Good for a Smile - Stella Jean MFW FW15

She is hands down one of my favourite designers, simply for the sheer joy alone her colorful clothing with its bright patterns transmits. Looking at one of her shows, or at her garments, is always good for a pick me up, for inducing a smile. I cannot imagine being grumpy wearing them.

It is true that what we saw at the show today at Milan Fashion Week FW15 was a bit of a hodgepodge and I would not wear a large number of these looks as they were presented today. Then again, I just might. I think however, that the single pieces are outstanding, beautiful and happiness inducing and combined in other ways, I would certainly enjoy strutting them around. A bit like a peacock...

5 more Questions to ask when Shopping - The Closet Conundrum Part IV

... or what Discworld has to do with investing in quality and saving money.

Inspired by my dear readers who suggested three more questions that can help with the buying process in the comments on "5 Questions to ask yourself while Shopping", here are another five questions you can ask yourself while shopping for clothing.

Winter is Going - The Last Days of Chunky Knit

Winter is going - or at least I hope so. In the last couple of days it has been decidedly warmer here in the North of Italy, you could perceive that first hint of spring in the air, so this might well be the last of chunky knit you are seeing from me for about 8 months, until the cycle of seasons nears its end once more. For now so, I'll be happy to transition into spring fashion.

New York Fashion Week Favorites - A Reflection

This time New York Fashion Week didn't do much for me. I remember how excited I was just over a week ago for it to start and then ... not sure where it went. All I can say is that I looked at a lot of shows & collections and most of them felt very bland to me. Like just a rehash of the same stuff we saw in the last two years. Yet another revival of the 60ies, 70ies, you name it. Boring colors. Boring cuts. Everything seen already all too recently. It was not bad or ugly clothing at all, don't get me wrong, but a big part felt very uninteresting to me.

Of course I realize that labels & fashion houses have their signature style, their signature looks, the thing they are known for and rarely do they totally reinvent themselves because it contains a certain risk. Why do something you don't know wether it will be liked if you can just fall back on stuff that has worked well before? Something that is part of who you are as a brand? Especially because there is also a lot of moeny involved. That is something all artists & creators face, not only in the fashion industry. I vividly remember some music groups trying to veer off the worn out track. Some made it big time and some failed and went "back to the roots". It doesn't even need to be a total "I am gonna shock my fan base" reinvention and sometimes it happens naturally when a Label / House changes the head designer / creative director.

Zodiac Fashion - Fashion, Art and Curiousity

Another one for the category fashion meets art meets curiousity. This is a project realized for Splash Calendar for 2015, an attempt to express the main characteristics of each zodiac sign with an outfit, with a particular look.

Me, I am an Aquarius with Gemini Rising. I can get behind the Aquarius outfit, I like the colors, the dress is overall aestetically pleasing for me and I love its high neckline. Not sure I would wear it, however. I kinda dislike the pink swan. As for Gemini, shiny is good, but for me the outfit is not trickster, not mercurial enough, it is too regal, in my opinion, even with the quirky colored stones and patterns. I like that they used two different models. And I absolutely love the Virgo one.

What about you? Can you see yourself and your style in the look for your star sign? And if not, which one are you drawn to?

Gotta kiss myself, I'm so pretty - Abstract Graffiti Sweater, Plaid Scarf and Heartshape Sunglasses

Unlike today, last week we've had a couple of sunny days, so I got to pull out my heartshaped sunglasses. I've actually been wanting to wear these ever since I got them in late December during the winter sales. They are fun, and you know I love fun accessories to spice up my looks.

The sweatshirt top with the graffiti like abstract drawings I've found on Oasap and it fits neatly into my wardrobe and style. Funky and quirky print but neutral colors and sleek, clean, classic cut. Unfortunately it's sold out by now, but you should check them out. I love their range of tops, shirts and sweaters. In fact you might remember this one with japanese art print and this one with the horse head, which are both from *Oasap* as well, and worn quite regularly.

Love the blue eyeshadow, the blue cut-out pumps, the blue shiny pants, the blue couch, the blue in the carpet ... So yeah, I like blue. So does my son by the way (he almost only wears blue). So sue us!

Also like the big bangles, the leo jumpsuit and the funkyness of it all.

SS15 Ready to Wear by Andrew Gn - Get Your Obi On

New York Fashion Week for Fall 2015 is (officially) starting tomorrow, but meanwhile, and with spring only just over a month away, let's take a look at another great collection for Spring/Summer 2015.

The Ready-to-Wear collection by Andrew Gn captured me with its stunning combination of color blocking, use of different textures and beautiful prints, with the latter being, in my opinion, quite artfully mixed, especially in regards to the obi, which are a prominent feature of this collection. And of course, I couldn't pass them by.

I'm gonna pop some tags - 5 Reasons Why I Love Thrifting (And you should too)

I figured, with all the thrifted items coming up continuously in my outfit posts, I give you some of the reasons why I personally love "going to pop tags" and why you should consider trying it at least twice. Once isn't enough because luck plays definitely a factor. We all know three times is a charm, so go for that.

Rectangle, Triangle, Circle - Talking Accessories Again, I am with Coco

We already talked about this last week. I am not into overly heavy accessorizing. I don't do big arm parties, I rarely layer necklaces and often enough my earrings are small and dainty. Iris Apfel I ain't. You could say, that instead I go with Coco on this one. Or the quote attributed to her:

"Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off"

Spring 2015 Couture - Viktor & Rolf - Walking Wheat & Flower Fields

The Winter strikes back with a bang today, as it is heavily snowing here in the North of Italy. So for now, I will satisfy my cravings for warmer temperatures with the Spring 2015 Couture show by Viktor & Rolf, who sent walking corn and flower fields down the runway. We could be pedantic and argue that the hats are more representative of late summer, but the point is that the collection evokes the sensation of warmer seasons.

Iris Apfel I ain't - Untold Stories the Outfit Edition I

Let's talk about "No!" and "Hell No!". The kind of outfits you put on once because initially it seemed like a good idea, just to realize that it was a big big mistake. This set of pictures we've taken in summer, contains one of them. I have a couple more, I call them the Untold Stories, and depending on mood, courage and other considerations, I might turn them into a post and thus this into a series.
