Fashion Find - Rebecca Minkoff Active Wear

In my recent post about my not anymore brown belt, you've seen a picture of me in the traditional karate gi that we wear during our practice. Yes, even in summer. Even when it's 35+ °C outside and you sweat just watching others move.

So, whilst I have to wear the "traditional" white gi when practicing Karate, I do love to wear fancy sporty outfits - or more sophisticated, active wear - for going to and from the gym where we train. Especially in summer. It just adds to the feel of doing some physical activity, if you know what I'm saying. Besides nothing beats active wear in being comfortable. Am I right? Well maybe some pajamas do...

Big Blue Flower - Flowy White Dress

I've decided to show you my not so tan legs again. Hah! Told you I like to wear dresses in summer.
When I saw this dress on the SheIn website, I immediately loved the asymmetric (or high-low), wide, flowy but still timeless cut as well as the almost singular big flower. There is a whole science behind what kind of print is the best for your body type, but I couldn't or wouldn't remember at the decisive moment, the large (almost) single flower in blue spoke to the part of me that adores minimalistic aesthetics.

Karate - Brown Belt No More

So you might have noticed that I was semi absent even after my parents went back to Germany. The reason being, I was preparing for taking my Black Belt, or rather 1. Dan exame, which was held last Saturday. Now my own take on setting goals is that I rather just do it (yeah yeah) than talk about it a lot before hand. That's why there was no "omg guys I am going to test for black belt, wish me luck" posts all over the internet. A lot of people around me actually didn't even know. My best female friend didn't know. So don't feel bad.

I guess in part I prefer to do it this way because for me it worked out better to not seed expectations. And even if those I tell wouldn't have any expectations, I would imagine they have, adding to the pressure to perform, which for me is quite an emotional strain. So I'd rather just work quietly on my projects and invite to the party afterwards. Statistically, I managed to complete a lot more goals done this way than those I announced to half the world (or even just my husband) beforehand. Weird?

It was very different from what I expected. In the past, I had made up castle in the sky stories of how I imagined things to go, but it was like every single one of those expectations was blown out of the window and I was presented instead with a list of "How much do you really want it?" - Apparently, I wanted it enough. I passed. 5 years of constant training and never giving up paid off.

Getting my black belt, making it to shodan, isn't an end, just one milestone along the karate way. It's an important one, sure, but you aren't done. It's hard for me to really mold into words how important practicing karate is for me, or how much it has changed and formed me. I will say so that without karate, there would be no Funky Jungle.
---

Fashion Find - Ikwetta

Today I want to introduce you to Ikwetta, a brand that sells handmade goods from Africa.

I've been approached by Sheeni, one of the founders of Ikwetta, to share and help promote their project, which helps artisans from Africa to earn a good wage for their beautiful handmade goods, thus empowering them and helping  them make their lifes better.

To learn more about it, here's a short video.

video

I am happy to support this project, their project, because with the simple step of having a broader (and let's face it, wealthier) market for their products, these people can transform their lifes. They can go from Caterpillar to Butterfly, because it's not just a one time aid, but something that will continue to support them and their families. It's not a handout, but an energy exchange where they now simply get more energy for their craftsmanship.

Currently Ikwetta is running a Kickstarter campaign to gather funds for building a proper workshop. All the products sold by Ikwetta are handmade.

Besides beautiful sandals, their range inlcudes also colorful totes, clutches and crossbody bags. If you pledge your money towards their Kickstarter Campaign, you have the choice between several options ranging from a simple bracelet over a color coordinated set of sandals, bag and clutch all the way up to having an entire collection designed for you.

If you toyed with the idea of getting a new pair of sandals or a beach tote, please go & take a look at Ikwetta and consider whether one of their products could be thoroughly loved by you.

Distressed in the City - Boyfriend Jeans and Red High Heels

I was not exagerating when I wrote that I've been and am wearing these jeans quite often. And you know that I am not so secretly happy with having a small but well picked wardrobe where exactly that happens. Where I would wear any single item everyday. Of course, that doesn't happen and there are still things I am wearing considerably less than others, but going with the rules when shopping and continously eliminating stuff I am really not feeling, I am slowly getting there.

Anyway, it was time for another coffee date with D., which is a monthly fixture in my calendar. So I headed over to the city and this is what I wore. Much to my dismay I later saw that the top had bleach stains at the bottom and not just one, but several all around. I have absolutely no idea how that happened. It's a real shame, because I loved wearing it.

Some Kind Of Palm Leaves

I've been out pretty much all day yesterday, am very tired today, and have been putting aside time for my little goal in the last weeks - if you follow me on Instagram you know why. If not, you'll know soon. That's just to say, I'll keep it short and sweet today.

Palm print midi skirt combined with a fairly light weight off-white sweater was a look I've worn a little time ago, when the weather was still slightly chilly. Nothing special, just random day to day dressing. And yes, I've been trying to work on that tan...

5 (+1) Reasons Why Shopping Your Closet Is Good

"Closet Shopping". The idea that you approach your wardrobe with the eyes of someone who would step into a store to buy an outfit. You could also call it Closet Re-evaluation, since you are reconsidering what you already own. Ideally, you combine it with a shopping break to get the maximum effect out of it. I've always found it beneficial to do closet evaluation sessions fairly regularly to keep a good grip on what you have and make sure your wardrobe changes as your style evolves.

Double Denim Trouble & All About You

Double, double toil and trouble,
fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Bonus Points for whome gets the reference. Otherwise just go on admiring the not double, but triple denim featured in this outfit. I wore this full throttle denim look for a meeting with a teacher / educator of my son.

Complete denim look | Double Denim Trouble & All About You - Funky Jungle, fashion & personal style blog

Both the jeans jacket and pants are thrifted, but I am passing on the pants, I just don't really feel them. The sunglasses are a lucky grab, I was exchanging some not so good pants at H&M for my now beloved khaki pants and had to add something to reach the same amount. Yeah, lame practice, I know. Actually asked the clerk if I could get a gift card / voucher for the 5€ that were missing and she was all like "hell to the no". I am however sure that in other countries at H&M that has been done. Anyway, I grabbed these sunglasses, half desperate, because it was near the check out and I had to get going, but they've since become one of my favourite pairs.
---

Su, raddoppiatevi, fatica e doglia,
ardi, tu, fuoco, calderon gorgoglia.

---

Doppelt plagt Euch, mengt und mischt,
Kessel brodelt, Feuer zischt

The Navy Blue Dress

As I've said before, I love the ease of dressing with just a dress in summer. Often, there's not even a need to accessories all that much. In the colder months, I put on more accessories because they are also a means of sprucing up the fact that I am wearing the same coat or jacket, something I do not need to do during the warmer period. And although here I added a light summer scarf, I might have even liked the look a little more without.

Belted fit & flare dress with a touch of 50ies retro vibe, polka dots, hearts & cut out ballerina flats || The Navy Blue Dress - Funky Jungle, fashion & personal style blog

This particular dress was sent over to me by the folks at Romwe. The added belt allows you to pull it into a fit and flare style silhouette, which gives it that slight 50ies retro vibe. You could wear it without as a very loose dress as well. By the way, it has pockets!

I wore this outfit for the end-of-year event at the kindergarten.
---

May's Favorite Five - What I loved last month

The round up of my Top 5 Favourite Things from the month of May.

The Gardens at Castello Quistini

This was the first excursion we did with my parents. It was just a quick trip really, as they were still recovering from a long, several hours road trip. Doing the same trip twice a year myself, I know just how drained you are after doing nothing for hours but sitting in a car. And yes, even with pauses and trying to stay entertained & engaged.

Castle Quistini is located at Rovato, a small town in the Franciacorta which is the region to the west of Brescia. The gardens are open to public visit during some periods of the year and they also have a space where they host wedding receptions and similar.

White Lace - The Boho Lady

This lace trimmed crop blouse is the last of the pieces I've gotten during the Shopbop Sale in early April. You might remember that I had been looking for a dressy top as well as wanting to get in on the lace action for summer and well this one here caught my attention right away. What I love about it is the broad lace part below, which turns it into the perfect crop top if you aren't into looks with freestyle baring your midriff anymore. It's like the Boho Ladies version of a crop top.

White cropped lace blouse, black culottes & wedge espadrilles || The Boho Lady Crop Top | Funky Jungle, fashion & personal style blog

And what I really liked about ordering from Shopbop was their friendly customer service. Quick to reply and very helpful. I have had to cancel my first order because I had made a silly mistake, and even tho it was already in the "shipping" stage, they e-mailed the warehouse to hold up the package before leaving, cancelled the order for me and refunded, all within a short time frame. Professional and efficient. Just the way we like it.

D.I.Y. Tutorial - Twisted Double Chain Necklace & Bracelet

This is another really easy and fast jewelry D.I.Y. that requires little other skill than being able to hold a pincer. And maybe not even that, as I actually could have opened all of these rings by hand thanks to the pliability of the material.

I've actually done both of these items over a year ago already, but since I had to replace the clasp of the necklace, I figured I could as well take pictures for a tutorial whilst doing so.

This quick & easy jewelry D.I.Y tutorial shows you how to make a twisted chunky chain necklace and bracelet | Funky Jungle - fashion and personal style blog

You've seen me wearing both of these on the blog before, for example here & here & here.

Materials needed for a twisted double chunky chain necklace and/or bracelet | D.I.Y Accessory Tutorial

Materials needed

- 2 different colored chains, ring size of your liking, made up of openable jump rings.
- 1 pair of pincers
- 1 clasp each
- 1 additional small jump ring each

Necklace

1 chain should be around 42 cm long, the other slightly longer. As you can see from the pics, my silver chain is about 5 jump rings longer than the gold one. The extra bit is for adjustable necklace length. You can of course vary both the total and the adjustable lengths to fit your needs and creativity.

Bracelet

Measure your wrist to find out what length you need. I have very slim wrists (most standard size bracelets love to fall off) and usually go with about 18 cm.

Process

1. Lay out both the chain pieces you need. Pry open the jump ring at one end of either chain (it really doesn't matter) and join the chains together. Close the jump ring tightly. You now have one long chain made up of two different colored chains.

2. Wrap the shorter chain tightly around the longer one.

3. Pry open the last jump ring of the shorter chain and attach it to the larger one, leaving the adjustable length as desired.

4. Attach the clasp to the other end, where you first joined the two chains together, using the smaller jump ring.

5. Enjoy!

I used two different colors of the same chain, but you could of course use the same chain, or two different types of chains, for example one being chunkier than the other, and so forth.

Want to attach some charms? No problem, just use another small jump ring and attach them where you fancy.
